Let us find the real meaning of peace this #WorldPeaceDay

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September to recognize the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. The International Day of Peace is also a day of ceasefire – personal or politicalThe General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples

I would begin this article with a story of an ancient Indian King who was obsessed with the desire to find the meaning of peace. What is peace and how can we get it and when we find it what should we do with it were some of the issues that bothered him.

Intellectuals in his kingdom were invited to answer the King's questions for a handsome reward. Many tried but none could explain how to find peace and what to do with it. At last someone said the King ought to consult the sage who lived just outside the borders of his Kingdom:

"He is an old man and very wise," the King was told. "If anyone can answer your questions he can."

The King went to the sage and posed the eternal question. Without a word the sage went into the kitchen and brought a grain of wheat to the King.

"In this you will find the answer to your question," the Sage said as he placed the grain of wheat in the King's outstretched palm.

Puzzled but unwilling to admit his ignorance the King clutched the grain of wheat and returned to his palace. He locked the precious grain in a tiny gold box and placed the box in his safe. Each morning, upon waking, the King would open the box and look at the grain to seek an answer but could find nothing.

Weeks later another sage, passing through, stopped to meet the King who eagerly invited him to resolve his dilemma. The King explained how he had asked the eternal question and this sage gave him a grain of wheat instead. "I have been looking for an answer every morning but I find nothing."

The Sage said: "It is quite simple, your honor. Just as this grain represents nourishment for the body, peace represents nourishment for the soul. Now, if you keep this grain locked up in a gold box it will eventually perish without providing nourishment or multiplying. However, if it is allowed to interact with the elements - light, water, air, soil - it will flourish, multiply and soon you would have a whole field of wheat which will nourish not only you but so many others. This is the meaning of peace. It must nourish your soul and the souls of others, it must multiply by interacting with the elements."

Peace-a small word with a deeper meaning attached to it, different interpretations, different perspectives and different understandings yet the meaning is one but for one's own self.

Nations go to war, often quoting peace as the reason. We must realize peace is a journey, not an end. Yet, in our efforts to obtain peace, we often do the most unpeaceful things. Instead of seeking inner peace, we seek to enforce peace on others. And that just doesn't work. Peace is a gift you can give to others and to yourself. If you seek peace with a sincere heart, you can find it.

There is a constant fight going on inside you….. White versus Black, Good versus Evil and when we obtain control over ourselves we can win this war. Consequently, when good prevails over evil within us, can we spread peace to our external elements. Peace comes from living in the moment and looking for the good in others. Peacefulness comes from facing our fears and letting them - trust that things will turn out all right.

During this painful time around the world I would like to dedicate a hymn.

They do not use to build a true community.
And we all know that we have the
talent to love but keep it buried in ourselves.

Pollution is the leading cause of many illnesses. It is not a surprise that our world is getting more and more polluted with every passing day. Rivers, oceans, streets, every place is polluted. The water we drink contains so many different types of pollutants that not only affect our nature but also our health. The air we breathe has so many different types of harmful substances.

We all care so much about our health and the health of our dear ones. Most of us prefer staying indoor thinking that our homes are safe and free from pollution. Indoor pollution is a serious issue and is going unnoticed. When we talk about indoor pollution it is not only limited to our houses, but also to other indoor institutions like offices, gyms, restaurants, movie theatres, malls, play areas, etc. As per a research conducted by WHO, it was found that 4.3 million people a year die from the exposure to indoor pollution.

Germs, Bacteria, and Viruses:

One of the most commonly found harmful substances in the air inside our homes is germs and viruses. These germs and viruses are transmitted from one person to another and usually stay in the indoor atmosphere. Studies have shown that of the bacteria found in indoor air, the most common four are: Micrococcus, Staphylococcus, Bacillus, and Pseudomonas. These bacteria’s affect our health and make us sick.

Smoke:

Smoke is not only limited to cigarette smoke. Yes, we all know how harmful second-hand cigarette smoke can be. But indoor air also contains smoke from fireplaces, stoves and cooking fires. These smokes are responsible for causing lung cancer, asthma or other chronic respiratory conditions.

Chemicals:

15 Different Approaches I Used To Stay Healthy #ApneTareekeSeHealthy



We start our day with our cellphones and end it with our cellphones. During the day we keep staring at our computer screen while being seated at one place. When we feel hungry we just pick up whatever bag of chips we find. We love visiting fast food joints rather than cooking a healthy dinner at home. Our work makes us so tired that in order to stay up and avoid falling asleep we turn to caffeine and alcohol. Our own faulty lifestyle is responsible for unhappiness, stress and diseased condition.


I have experienced in the past how my craze for fast food and my avoidance for exercise affected my health bitterly. Not only did I have unwanted and unhealthy weight gain, I found myself panting and sweating even after climbing two floors of stairs. I would skip college very often and found myself visiting the doctors clinic frequently because I kept falling sick. I have missed so many wonderful events including some concerts due to ill health.

That’s when I decided to step up and take charge of my health. I made a pledge for a healthier lifestyle. It was not easy. “No pain, No gain,” is indeed true. But in order to get good health it is important to force yourself to push harder. Being healthy is like a contract agreement you make with your body. The contract includes sacrificing things that you love, switching to a different diet, resisting temptations to eat fast food, exercising and so much more.


It wasn’t easy for me. It started out amazingly but with time my interest started fading away. I became more and more tempted to give up and switch back to my previous unhealthy lifestyle. So I decided to stay healthy in my own ways. Only when we find own ways of staying fit and heart healthy, are we able to sustain them towards our journey to stay fit and have a healthy heart.



Here are few innovative and different approaches I used to stay healthy:



1) First, I started carrying limited cash enough for my daily ticket and travelling expenses in my wallet. Whenever I would be tempted to visit any food stall or fast food joint, I would check my wallet to find not enough cash. Those days I didn’t have any credit/debit cards so I had to make do with the cash I carried. Hence, limited cash in my pocket made sure I didn’t eat any outside unwanted or unhealthy foodstuff.


2) Every alternate day I would walk home from Railway Station. My house was at an half an hour to forty five minutes walking distance away from the station. It helped me lose weight plus most of the time I would walk home with my friends or my boyfriend so I would not realize how the distance got covered amidst our talking and laughing.


3) I used to skip morning breakfast and this affected me. I made sure I had healthy homemade breakfast every morning. If breakfast wasn’t ready, I would eat a bowl full of cereal or oats or fruits but I made sure I ate something.


4) To completely bid goodbye to junk food wasn’t possible. So I let myself eat maybe one/two samosas only on Sunday’s. I made sure I just ate one or two. Lunch at fast food or restaurant joints was limited to once every two months.


5) I completely cut down coffee and soft drinks. Instead I used fresh homemade fruit juices. Water became my best friend.

6) I kept few dry fruits handy. Whenever I felt extremely hungry, I just chewed few dry fruits.


7) I started my day with “Gayatri Mantra” followed by breathing exercises and yoga stretches.


8) I made sure all my entertainment gadgets like TV, cellphones were turned off by 10 pm. I went to bed latest by 10.30 and tried to wake up by 5.30 every day.


9) Whenever I would feel stressed, I would take three deep breathes and count to 10. I helped me relax and get my focus back.


10) I cut out all the negativity from my life including negative people. Less negative people meant less nonsense to deal with and less stress.


11) Every alternate week I tried to detox myself with bitter gourd juice. It would flush the toxins out of my body and make me feel lighter.


12) In my free time, I would visit a park or a beach and spend time with nature rather than sitting in front of my computer.


13) From my TV schedule I stopped watching heavy drama based shows and switched to lighter comedy based shows. The only exception in drama based show was “Game of Thrones.”

14) I didn’t follow some heavy diet that made me starve all day. Starving only affects your health more. Rather, I believed that we should eat things in moderation.


15) Lastly, just because you are in a pink of health for quite some time doesn’t mean you should break the contract of healthy eating. This is a lifetime process and the day you break the contract you go back to phase one.


These were my little ways to have a healthy life.

Everyone these days wants to stay healthy and fit. But hardly anyone is making any efforts. Plans of staying fit get over just as quickly as they start. Why? Simply because we feel getting fit is an extremely difficult task. Well, the truth is it is not.

Our lifestyle is becoming more and more dangerous. We are tied up to our work desks for hours without much exercise. We are obligated to eat unhealthy fast food and meals which is further affecting our health. At a very young age, people in India are facing serious health and heart issues.

But the happy fact is that all these problems can be avoided just with little efforts, sacrifice and exercise. Staying healthy and fit is not a difficult task. We can do it easily by just few tiny baby steps. Various researches are showing that the key to lifelong good health is making simple changes in diet, exercise, and stress management.

I, too, have realized the importance of my health after battling serious health issues in the past few years. I have taken up efforts and made sacrifices and pledged for a healthier lifestyle. Here are few ways in which I try stay healthy:-

1) Positive Thinking

Biggest and the most important factor in staying healthy is positive thinking. Stress is a leading cause to many health problems. I have experienced how stress and negativity deeply affects the health. Positive thinking also helps you to be determined about your goals. It isn’t easy to say goodbye to stress all at once. Therefore, meditation and calming music helped me get over stressful situation. Letting go of negative thoughts and negative people made my life much easier and helped improve my health.


2) Exercising Whenever and Wherever Possible

I haven’t joined the gym but I try to get as much exercise as I can. Instead of taking the elevator, I use the stairs. I walk long distances and skip taking vehicles whenever and wherever possible. I make sure I don’t sit at one place for a prolonged time. I try to do few push-ups and pull-ups at home. I also do few exercises with the support of my chair. I make sure that I walk or exercise at least for an hour every day.

3) Saying No

This hasn’t been easy. Cutting down the food that you love is one of the most difficult tasks. But trust me, it’s worth it. I loooove fast food and would eat it almost every day in the past along with some soft drink. This took a toll on my health. Once I switched to healthier homemade food, fruits and veggies, my health improved. Battling temptations is the hardest thing but saying no to bad stuff and yes to healthier lifestyle is very important.

4) Good Mornings

I start my mornings with a short prayer followed by some yoga exercises like suryanamaskar, breathing exercise, stretching etc. Yoga gave me energy to face my daily tasks. Also, never skip breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and thus it is necessary to eat healthy at the start of your day. Also, drink plenty of water throughout the day.

5) Good Nights

Early to bed and early to rise makes you healthy, wealthy and wise. Staying up late nights or improper sleep also affects health. Sleep is another important factor in a healthy lifestyle. If you have trouble sleeping, darken your room and try some sleep techniques like breathing exercises. Avoid keeping your devices around your bed if you get easily tempted to check them.

The Superhero's We Need To Thank : Teachers #HappyTeachersDay



A teacher is very inspirational and influential person for a student. Everyone can be a teacher. Only the few and gifted can teach. The impact and personal reward that a teacher gets when they have passed on positive knowledge to another can't be explained in simple words.







In ancient India, teachers were held in great esteem. They were called “gurus.” In those days in India teaching was imparted in Gurukuls. The teacher and the students lived in the Gurukuls together, ate together and lived as members of one family.


Teachers were held in great respect. They held a higher place in society than even God, because they led people to God. A teacher can affect a child's behavior where they fail to see the whole person in each child and teach through a frame of love and understanding.


Once there was a teacher in France. Every time he came to the class, he took off his hat and wished the students first. When someone asked him why he did that, he answered, “Who knows what one of these students might become?” He was very correct.






Great men like Aristotle, Alexander the great, Lord Buddha, Emperor Ashoka and Napoleon, were taught by teachers who were ordinary men. They became greater than their teachers. Good teachers are very happy when their students become greater than themselves.

A teacher has a great impact on the lives of his/her students. An ideal teacher keeps studying always. They try to increase their knowledge and be up to date. They do not limit their teaching to the text book. They go beyond the text books and gain knowledge from whatever sources he can. The better a teacher prepares, the better he or she can teach.






There is a wise saying, “No one can give what he has not got.” The more knowledge a teacher has, the more knowledge he can impart to his students. An ideal teacher is a well-disciplined person. Example draws others. Students learn from the example set in front of them by their teachers.


Teachers help to mold young minds. When a child joins a school, he or she can hardly write anything. But when they take their first steps into the big business world, they can achieve great heights all by themselves. This is the impact a teacher has. A good teacher has the power to make a child a president of the country all with her knowledge.







Teachers are responsible for a child's personal, social, health and educational development as well as providing moral guidance. That gives them plenty of scope for impacting positively, doesn't it? So whether the teacher gives a child advice or protects a child from bullying or explains how to keep healthy, that teacher is impacting positively on the child's life. Teachers, like all parents, have a responsibility to protect a child's rights and therefore impact positively on all children's lives.


A teacher can support a child and show that they actually believe in the child. This can make all the difference in the world because sometimes children need that boost and they can get it when they see that someone actually believes that they can succeed, it helps with their self-esteem and confidence.





Today, as I prepare myself to become a teacher, I hope that I have at least a little impact in my student’s life that will help them become better and responsible citizens and wonderful human beings.

Here Is How Movies Help To Shape Our Society.

Technology has advanced to a very good extent. If you talk about entertainment, I believe the first thing in the minds of every citizen of our country will be movies. Movies have a very huge impact on our lives.

Bollywood releases the highest number of films every year in the world. Movies are like the number 1 source of entertainment in our country. Every Friday or every-time a new movie is released, the theaters are crowded. And if the movie stares some big shot celebrity, the collection for sure hits crores and crores of rupees.

Let’s talk about the impact movies have in our lives and on our society. I think movies help to shape society. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes in a bad way.

There are various movie genres like action, drama, romance, comedy, thriller, suspense, adventure, sci-fi, children, animated, horror, fantasy, etc. Each of these genres has a different impact.

When we talk about action movies, they surely have a villain in it. Most of the times the violent actions are just taken for entertainment purpose and nobody tries to imitate them. But sometimes, some people especially kids or youngsters try copying the action scenes. They seem to ignore the DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME warning sign and do it anyways. And sometimes they injure themselves. I remember this guy from my class who was crazy about rocky movies. He used to imitate all the fight scenes and one fine day while doing one of the stunt, he ended up fracturing his legs. I am not saying that the movie industry should stop producing action films or films full of violent scenes, but I think the parents should take care that their kids don’t copy them. 

 Movies even have ratings but most of the time parents seem to ignore this.

Some comedy movies are good for releasing stress and making you feel nice. For eg. When I talk about Mr. Bean, he is like the most loved character. But some comedy movies can make things plain awkward. For eg. Grand Masti, had a lot of adult jokes and it got weird when watching it with someone who doesn’t belong to your age group.

Some movies also promote use of alcohol and tobacco. Most of the times the sign “Drinking is injurious to health or Smoking causes cancer” is useless. The young crowd gets easily influenced by such things. According to some survey the use of alcohol and cigarettes in schools and colleges had increased after more and more movies started promoting them. 

Now-a-days, at the start of any movie, a small clipping about the ill effects of smoking is shown. It was very effective at first but nobody cares about it now. You can check it yourselves the next time you go to a theatre to watch a movie.

Sometimes movies show the wrong way to solve problems. Some actual robberies and crimes are inspired from movies. Google “CRIMES INSPIRED BY MOVIES” and you will find tons of stories.

But movies do also have a positive impact on the society. Movies are a great source of entertainment. Some movies are so wonderful, their story lines are very inspiring. Like for eg. Taare Zameen Par, Iqbal, etc.

Some movies open the world’s eyes to reality. Some help in promoting tourism of the least known places. Some movies enhance creative imaginations of young minds. Some movies teach us a great lesson about life. Some movies are inspired by the real life stories of great people which also helps us to get to know someone. Some movies have a motivational factor.

F.R.I.E.N.D.S has a magnet to divert one’s sad mood towards happy one. With my personal experience, I can assure that watching FRIENDS is a therapy to bring happiness…of any kind. It will force you to laugh out so hard and you will forget all your sorrows and tensions.

Here are some wonderful lessons I learnt from this F.R.I.E.N.D.S TV Show:-



  1. I learnt to laugh at myself. The six showed me that it is not necessary to be perfect. Sometimes we make mistakes and it can get embarrassing. At such times we need to laugh at ourselves, forgive our own mistakes and let go of everything.

  2. I learnt that no matter what, true friends will always be there for you. They will take care of you no matter what.

  3. I learnt that it’s fine to not be a “good person” all the damn time.

  4. They taught me that true love does exist. There is a lobster for everyone. They taught me that true love is unconditional, true love is goofy, true love is not perfect but yet it is everything that will complete your life. True love is forever.

  5. They taught me taught me to never give up on true love. They taught me that everyone is smart in different ways.

  6. They taught me about togetherness, about friendship, about struggle, about failures about laughter and sadness, about family about life and about living it.

  7. They taught me to pursue my passion.

  8. They taught me to stand up for my own self.

  9. You don’t have to be famous for being happy in life.

  10. Your life will be amazing even if you haven’t checked anything off your bucket list or have never done anything significant in life, as long as you have your friends around you.

#SayNoToDrugs this International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2017



Drug addiction — falling prey to the dangerous habit of taking narcotics — is spreading fast among young men all over the world. It is a real problem that, once indulged in, gets into bones and cannot be shaken off with the all the efforts. The result is that not only the young addict but his family is often doomed.

Various factors are at work for the spread of this infection. The most common cause is a widespread feeling among even tender-aged boys and girls, of deep depression and gloom. We live in an age of heightened tempo of life.

The domestic atmosphere and parental relation today are not all that is desired. Often both father and mother go out to work outside, leaving the child uncared for. Thus sub-conscious discontent is primarily responsible for the teenager going astray and on wrong lines.

There are also drug-traders around them, lying in wait to look for the possible victim. They have paid agents who tempt depressed and discontented youngsters. Tender-aged boys and girls feel naturally attracted to anything novel or strangely new and unknown. So they are easily induced to take the drug for which the agents of drug-traffickers initially pay.

Drugs like hashish, marijuana, heroin, L. S. D., cockaine—contain a high percentage of opium. Such a drug, when taken, at first leads to temporary forgetfulness with a kind of transport (lift) into a pleasant dreamland. Once initiated i.e. the habit is formed, the new addict must have it at the appointed hour and cannot do without it. If not received on time they tend to get restless.

Soon they turn anti-social, resorts to all sorts of crimes to have the money to buy the drug and end up leading the life of a wreck (ruined man) with frozen sensation about the outside world and the cherished human values. He is lost to the society and gradually glides to his grave. In this way, the promising career of a large number of youths is blasted. What a pity!

Most of the youngsters today in Punjab face the problem of drug addiction. Media report says “70% of the youth of Punjab is drug addict”. The drug menace in Punjab can be traced back from the early 1960s with the advent of green revolution which bought more laborers especially from outside and due to that their demand for poppy husk and opium increased manifold. Even most of the truck drivers felt that it helped them in long driving.

  • Easy availability- Punjab Borders Pakistan on one end and Himachal Pradesh on the other.  The drugs which are meant to be supplied to the pharmaceutical industry located in H.P get diverted for consumption (these drugs are an essential component of the most of the medicines).

  • Administrative connivance- The administration is Hand in Glove with the Drug Syndicate. Many prominent political names have surfaced in the past as associates of the drug mafia that operates in Punjab.

  • Economic Condition- The rich indulge in drug abuse for the fun of it.  Rich Punjabi's have got little to worry about when it comes to making ends meet. The poor on the other hand indulge in cheaper drugs; they use it as an escape route to divert their minds from the economic misery they are in.

  • Lack of awareness- The youth is always energetic, sentimental and vulnerable. With limited opportunities and forums to vent their frustrations and channel their energy, the youth turns towards Drug as a solution. There is critically low awareness about the ill effects of the Drugs. Unemployment, lack of education, peer pressure, loans due to farming and other social issues are responsible for the rising drug addiction in Punjab.

Solution?

The path of getting addicted is rather smooth in comparison with the process of cure and reformation. The, first task would be to isolate the young addict from his hardened companions. Then he or she has to be placed under specialized medical treatment.

A compassionate approach is to be followed to bring him back to the ways of normal life, for ultimately rehabilitating him to the bosom of the society. The physicians as well as the Police have a difficult responsibility and role to play in this regard.

Drug addiction that is ruining bright families is also a social curse. To fight and eradicate this evil organized efforts are called for both by the Govt. and social bodies. For this an intense anti-drug campaign has to be undertaken at first.

Various mass media like Radio, T. V., Cinema, the Press (newspapers and periodicals) have to be utilized, through lectures, slides, posters etc. Arrangements should be made to widely spread awareness among the rising generation about the limitless evils and harmful effects of drug-taking.

All routes to drug-peddling and smuggling have to be sealed so that drugs become scarce and not easily available. Ex-addicts should not be looked down upon as lepers. They should be treated with all the compassion and care they socially deserve. The sense of hopefulness is to be put in them so that they can turn a new leaf of life and become useful and responsible members of the society.
